The City of Spencer has numerous Boards and Commissions that serve the citizens of Spencer.  The Mayor would like to keep a list of persons  interested in serving on a City Board or Commission on file.  From time to time positions become vacant and are filled by appointment of the Mayor, with Council approval.  The State Legislature is requesting gender balance on City Boards and Commissions.

The following are some of the Boards and Commissions that may need positions filled by July 1, 2017:

Trees located in a street right-of-way, or privately owned trees that contain branches that extend out over a public right-of-way, need to be trimmed so that the lowest branches are at least ten feet above a public sidewalk, (or the street parking if a sidewalk does not exist), and at least fourteen feet above the traveled portion of a street or alley.  This does not require a permit.  The City will be inspecting trees starting approximately June 1st in the SOUTH FORESTRY DISTRICT; the area of town that is south of the railroad tracks, to determine which properties have trees…  Read more

Government Information

Spencer City Hall is located at 418 2nd Avenue West and is the central administrative office of the City of Spencer.

The Offices located at City Hall include: Office of the Mayor, Office of the City Manager, City Clerk's Office, Public Works Department and Planning Department. The Spencer Council Chambers are located at the North end of the building with a separate entrance at 420 2nd Avenue West. At the north end of City Hall is the office of the Spencer Main Street Company. The entrance to this office is located at 122 West 5th Street.

There are a variety of public services available at City Hall:

  • City records: Council minutes, resolutions and ordinances
  • City cemetery services: Riverside and North Lawn cemeteries
  • City payroll, personnel and bookkeeping
  • Garbage and solid waste services
  • Street and sewer maintenance
  • Various permits and licenses: Building, sign, fence, sidewalk, electrical, plumbing, excavation, Spencer beer and liquor licenses

City Hall is also the central office for the following Boards and Commissions:
